Preselling for profit

The most important thing you can do to increase your affiliate commissions is to presell properly.

First, what is preselling? Preselling is both an art and a science. It’s a process of taking your reader and getting them ready to buy. Then you send them to the site that sells what you’ve prepared them for. And if it’s done properly, the process is completely sub-conscious.

The gist is that you give your reader some useful information. And give them a link to the product you’re preselling. In a second we’ll talk about how to do actually it. Before we get into that, you should understand what’s in it for you. Just a few of the reasons you want to presell.

• It builds trust - Readers who trust you are more likely to click your links. And the more traffic you can send to the sale page, the more commissions you’ll earn.
• Preselling is disarming - Nobody likes to be sold something. By not doing that to them, your reader is less defensive. And in turn they read to understand what you’re saying. And your intention is conveyed more easily.
• It puts them in a buying mood - Your readers are now receiving your message. Being open means, they are open to everything you give them. This includes the sales website you send them to! Sending them to the sales page in this state makes them more receptive to the actual pitch.
• You make more money - They arrive at the product website prepped to buy. With the guard down and trusting your recommendation. The only possible result is more sales!
• Your customers are happier - People like to make their own buying decisions. Instead of feeling pressured or “sold”. And this makes them feel better about the product they purchased.
• Your profits go up - Satisfied customers are less like to refund. And that translates to more commission staying in your affiliate business.

Mastering the art

The first step is in getting your readers to trust you and open up. Honestly, the only way to do this is to provide real value in you content. But you can’t give them so much that they think they have everything they could need, and that’s what makes it an art. So you send them to the product website with a hunger for more of what the product provides. Plus they’re not guarded, so they’re more open and likely to purchase the product.

It’s also a science

You also have to include some very specific things.

The first is how you present the information. You’ve got to map out your strategy before you start writing. In the end, you want to sell a specific product. There are two ways to accomplish this with great content. The first method is to provide enough info to get them started, but not enough to finish. The other method is to explain all the details and expose how difficult it is to do what you’re explaining. Whichever method, you send them to a product website that solves the problem you just created.

Next, you have to use “convert linking” methods. Instead you link directly to the product sales page. That’s because nobody likes to click on affiliate links. But how will you earn affiliate commissions if you don’t use your affiliate link? There’s a trick to make this work… You use the “covert cookie” strategy.

The next trick is to hyperlink specific words and phrases inside the content of the article you’re providing. Hyperlinked words are clicked more than anything else. And when the words are in context like this, it makes perfect sense for your reader to click them.

Using this system, you’re virtually guaranteed to increase your affiliate business success.

Now for the bad news…

This process is not easy – at all! Let’s look at the skills required to pull it off: Great content. First and foremost, you have to be able to write a great article that provides valuable information. This means you have to be able to write well, and have enough knowledge to be useful. Strategic writing. First, you have to give good information. But, you also need to know how to present the information in a way that give value to the reader. While at the same time making them want more. The other approach is to reveal a self-evident problem through the information.

Picking products. Next, you’ve got to pick the right product to presell. Even if you get the article written. Your efforts are completely wasted if you don’t pick a winning product.

Technical skills. To be most effective you have to use the “covert cookie” method. This is actually pretty simple – just embed a 1 pixel X 1 pixel image and set your affiliate link as the “source” of the image. (Just don’t mess it up. Otherwise, you won’t get credit for your sales.)
